#VegetableKothamalliKoottu - #VegetableCorianderLentil : koottu is a gravy generally prepared with vegetables, dhal and coconut masala.
It is one of the dishes prepared for lunch.
Only some vegetables either separately or in combination are suitable for making koottu.
The koottu which I have presented here is with one of the best set of vegetable combinations and tastes very good.
Brinjal : 1 small one
Drumstick : 1/2
Ridge gourd : 1/2
Avaraikkai ( broadbeans ) : 5
Kothamalli (coriander : 1/4 cup
Onion : 1 small size(diced finely)
Garlic : 2 cloves(diced finely)
Green gram dhal (Pacha paruppu) : 1/4 Cup
Turmeric powder : a pinch
Sambar Powder : 1/2 Tsp
To grind :
Coconut grated : 2 Tsp
Cumin : 1/4 Tsp
Rice flour : 1/4 Tsp
Black Pepper :4 or 5 [ optional ]
Onion Vadagam : 1/4 Tsp
Oil for frying onion vadagam : 1/2 tsp
In a pressure pan or cooker take the washed dhal.
Add a pinch of turmeric powder.
Add 3/4 cup of water. Close the lid and keep on high flame.
Allow for 3 whistles, then keep 5 minutes on SIM position.
Open the cooker when the steam completely gone.
Transfer into a bowl and keep aside.
Now add sambar powder, salt, all cut vegetables, diced onion & garlic cooker.
Then add 1/2 cup of water and cook on high flame for just 1 whistle.
Open cooker immediately by lifting the weight to release the steam.
Now add finely chopped coriander leaves ( Kothamalli ), cooked dhal and coconut masala (paste). Mix well and adjust salt.
Cook for 2 to 3 minutes on medium flame without closing the cooker with lid.
Heat a kadai with oil and fry onion vadagam and pour it on the prepared koottu.
This amount is just enough for 3 persons.
Koottu can be mixed with white rice and enjoyed with sambar or pickle as side dish.
Can have as a side dish for sambar or kuzhambu or rasam rice.
